St Thomas's Well - Winton
(SE 4004 9650)

YHW&SS traced this well to Winton Manor Farm , although no well or spring appears to be marked on the OS maps at this location, however 500m to the west the map does show a 'Hallikeld Bridge' and 'Hallikeld Farm'. The 1850's OS maps also marks a 'Hallikeld Beck' flowing from a 'Hallikeld' next to Hill House. This Hallikeld (SE 3943 9637) is located at the junction of 3 parish boundary's, Northallerton to the south, Brompton to the west and Winton to the east, with the well being located next to a stream just in the Winton parish.
This may be the St Thomas's Well refered to by Whellan ................
"on a farm at Winton is a chalybeate spring called St Thomas's well"  (vol ii p335)

With the Hallikeld being a location common to three parishes, Brompton's church dedication to St Thomas may have been attached to the holy well.
The well is also located 100m to east of a Roman road.
